Alphawave Semi, a global leader in high-speed connectivity and compute silicon, has introduced a new 9.2 Gbps HBM3E sub-system silicon platform. This platform, based on the company’s proven HBM3E IP, achieves an unprecedented memory bandwidth of 1.2 Terabytes per second. This advancement meets the growing demand for ultra-high-speed connectivity in high-performance compute and generative AI applications.
Recent trade shows have seen Alphawave Semi successfully demonstrate its HBM3E IP subsystem. In collaboration with Micron, channel simulations have shown top-tier performance of 9.2 Gbps within an advanced 2.5D package. This package includes the HBM3E IP subsystem, Alphawave Semi’s innovative silicon interposer, and Micron’s HBM3E memory. These results highlight the platform’s ability to significantly reduce time-to-market, delivering exceptional performance and power efficiency for data centre and HPC AI infrastructures.
HBM3E has become a preferred memory solution for AI and HPC systems, offering unparalleled bandwidth, optimal latency, a compact footprint, and superior power efficiency. Alphawave Semi’s customers are deploying complete HBM subsystem solutions that integrate the company’s HBM PHY with a highly configurable, JEDEC-compliant HBM controller. This integration can be fine-tuned to maximise efficiency for specific AI and HPC workloads.
Moreover, Alphawave Semi has designed an optimised silicon interposer to achieve excellent signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal performance at 9.2 Gbps. According to Praveen Vaidyanathan, vice president and general manager of Micron’s Compute Products Group, Micron is dedicated to advancing memory performance through its comprehensive AI product portfolio. The company’s collaboration with Alphawave Semi has demonstrated a remarkable performance of 9.2 Gbps for AI accelerators using HBM3E, offering up to 30% lower power consumption compared to competitors.
Mohit Gupta, senior vice president and general manager of Custom Silicon and IP at Alphawave Semi, expressed excitement about leading the industry with a 9.2 Gbps HBM3E PHY and controller chiplet-enabled platform. This platform delivers 1.2 TBps bandwidth, backed by channel simulations across the SoC, interposer, and Micron’s HBM3E memory. Gupta emphasised that this, combined with Alphawave Semi’s advanced custom silicon and 2.5D/3D packaging capabilities, provides a significant time-to-market advantage for hyperscaler and data centre infrastructure customers developing AI-enabled systems.
